Much of the composer's work is for choir of various sorts, ranging from Y Gelynnen (The Holly Tree) (words by Dafydd ap Gwilym) for male voice choir and piano, short concerted items for SSAA choir with piano or harp accompaniment, such as Triban, loosely based on traditional Welsh carols, to choral music for performance in church. Typical of the last genre is And I Say Unto Thee for SATB and organ in which a (fairly) straightforward choral part in occasionally massive homophony is juxtaposed with virtuosic organ part. Other religious works include a setting of the Nunc Dimittis (1994), Our Faith is A Light (1993, rev.1995) (words by Julian of Norwich) and a Missa Brevis (1989). Secular works include Springrise (1995) (words by Herrick, et al.), for soprano solo, SATB choir and small orchestra, commissioned and performed by the Maidstone Choral Union, and Y Serch Lledrad (Stolen Love) (words by Dafydd ap Gwilym) of 1989. The latter is a key work in the composer's oeuvre, and is closely related thematically, in both senses, to the Percussion Concerto as they are both based on a "hidden" motto and pivot chord on A flat which always feature in pieces written after 198
